Seeking 2 youth delegates to National Convention

SK-MNO Youth Winter Retreat 2015

Over 70 youth and leaders from the Saskatchewan and Manitoba/Northwestern Ontario synods met at Metochos Camp in February.  The weather was a bit frightful but inside the retreat centre there was a lot of warmth! Emmanuel was our presenter.  He is originally from Madagascar and is currently studying at LTS in Saskatoon to become a pastor.  He got us thinking about who we are – and got us to remember that we are God’s beloved children, no matter how many friends we have on Facebook! ELCIC National convention – July 2015

The Fifteenth Biennial Convention of the ELCIC will be held in Edmonton, AB from July 9-12, 2015 with the plenary sessions occurring at the Shaw Conference Centre in downtown Edmonton. The National Convention will start Thursday at noon and end Sunday at noon. The Convention Banquet will be held on Saturday, July 11 at the downtown Chateau Lacombe Hotel. Lenten study available online

Fred Bahnson, a farmer and theologian, and Norman Wirzba, professor of theology and ecology at Duke Divinity School, have written a book that can be the basis for a Lenten Series, a series in Adult Forums, a book club, young adult group, student group, etc.: Making Peace with the Land: God’s Call to Reconcile with Creation (Intervarsity Press, 2012). The Future with Hope task force held its first meeting on February 10th, 2015. The task force takes up where the Dream Team left off; setting out to develop concrete recommendations for going forward as a synod. The Future with Hope task force held its first meeting In Saskatoon on February 10, 2015. The task force was established by Synod council; consisting of members Cindy Hoppe (co-chair), Rev. Bob Lewis (co-chair), Cheryl Bauer Hyde, Rev. Greg Kiel, Rev. Murray Halvorson, Bishop Sid Haugen, and Joan Meyer. The task force has been asked to form recommendations to the 2016 Saskatchewan Synod Convention around frequency of conventions, conference mandates, election of Synod Council members, and national convention delegate selection. Synod Council Mid-term Teleconference

The Saskatchewan Synod Council met by conference call on January 29th. Bishop Sid presented his report highlighting the work of the Synod since the council last met in October. Preliminary information regarding the finances in 2014 was given. Two appointments were made: Rev. Stewart Miller was named mid term appointment to the LTS Board and Bert Ottenson was appointed to the Compensation Committee. The Synod Council’s next meeting will be held Mar. 26th through 28th at Queen’s House in Saskatoon.
