Saskatoon: Lutheran Theological Seminary President resigns

This announcement comes from Gerry Saleski, Chair of Lutheran Theological Seminary (Saskatoon) Board of Governors On behalf of the LTS Board of Governors I would like to advise that Rev. Dr. Kevin Ogilvie, President of LTS, has resigned effective June 30, 2015. The Board wishes to thank President Ogilvie for his dedication and commitment to the Seminary, particularly his leadership in fulfilling the Seminary’s mission. The Board of Governors will be announcing a replacement at a later date.

CLWR is happy to announce that the Road to Kakuma shipment has finally arrived at the Kakuma refugee camp in northwestern Kenya. Supporters like you made the journey possible with over $15,000 in donations over the past few months! Thank you! Many students will receive Learning & Living Kits upon returning to class in January, but for many other residents distribution has already begun. New Appointment for Bishop (Ret.) Cindy Halmarson

December 17, 2014 Rev Cindy Halmarson, the former bishop of Saskatchewan Synod, has accepted a position in the Global Mission Unit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Her new position as Area Program Director for Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (Europe/MENA), based at the Lutheran Center in Chicago, will involve building and maintaining relationships with partner churches in order to strengthen Christ’s mission in the world. October 2014 Synod council meeting synopsis

The Sask Synod Council met Oct 29-31, 2014 at St. Michael’s in Lumsden for the first time following the May 2014 Synod Convention.  During this meeting they welcomed and oriented new members to council; reviewed the motions referred to Council by the convention plus a summary of all the table talk cards that were recorded during the convention; and received the Dream Team report with its recommendations. In Memoriam – Rev. Dr. William Hordern

On September 8, 1920, during harvest, William Edward Hordern (Bill) was born on a farm at Dundurn to Paul and Ethyl (Davis) Hordern.  And 94 years later, as another Saskatchewan harvest comes to an end, he was called to another home. His parents put a strong emphasis on education and he studied at Woodview School, took grades 9 and 10 by correspondence, attended the Dundurn high school, the University of Saskatchewan, and St. Andrew’s College.
