October 2014 Synod council meeting synopsis

The Sask Synod Council met Oct 29-31, 2014 at St. Michael’s in Lumsden for the first time following the May 2014 Synod Convention.  During this meeting they welcomed and oriented new members to council; reviewed the motions referred to Council by the convention plus a summary of all the table talk cards that were recorded during the convention; and received the Dream Team report with its recommendations. During the second day of the meeting the Council was joined by the Conference Deans and the Future with Hope Task Force members to participate in a Strategic Planning Session lead by an outside facilitator.   After much soul-searching and dialogue, a new vision for the Synod was created:  “Strengthening faith communities for service.”   To attain this vision, new priorities are being set and over the next biennium tactical goals will be put in place to accomplish the fundamental work done by this group.
The last day was spent receiving the reports and recommendations of the various Synod Committees. The next Synod Council meeting will be held March 26-28, 2015 at Queens House in Saskatoon.
