Rev. Johan Hesje Obituary

September 01, 1923 – November 03, 2018

Pastor Johan Arnt Hesje passed away peacefully on November 3, 2018 with family at his side at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon, at the age of 95.

Born September 1, 1923 in Time, Norway, Johan immigrated to Canada with his parents and five siblings in 1928. He lived a farm life in northern Saskatchewan during the lean depression years with his parents, Johan and Karen Hesje, and family, which grew to nine children.

Johan felt called to be a Lutheran pastor while attending school at the Saskatchewan Lutheran Bible Institute in Outlook SK.

He married Ruth Haugen on August 28, 1952. Johan and Ruth had seven children: Keith (Vicky), Joel (Brenda), Sylvia (Michael), David (Debbie), Crystal (Dan), Lynn (Kurt) and Joanne (James).

Johan served as a Lutheran Pastor in Melville SK, Cabri SK, Prince Rupert BC, Elbow SK and Mission BC.

Johan loved God and preaching the gospel message. After retirement, he and Ruth served as missionaries in Mexico, the Philippines and the Ukraine.

Johan was predeceased by Ruth in August of this year. He is survived by his seven children, 21 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service was held  on November 10th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Elbow, SK.
